چکیده

This paper presents a study of nonlinear complex behaviour in UMTS networks. Using the fundamentals of chaos theory we explore the chaotic nature of the TCP protocol when used in 3G UMTS mobile networks. Furthermore we evaluate the impact of nonlinear dynamic behaviour on the UMTS network performance. In order to validate the concept of our investigation, a model of the UMTS network is built using OPNET modeller and simulated under various user traffic loads. Simulation results show the behaviour of the network with increasing traffic load, which ranges from periodically stable to chaotic with a direct impact on network performance.

Experimental analysis of TCP behaviour over a downlink UMTS channel under different scheduling strategies

Cellular systems, such as UMTS, use scheduling algorithms in order to provide fair sharing of the available bandwidth among the different users. However, the use of scheduling algorithms in wireless networks can have a great impact on the performance of TCP based applications. The objective of the paper is the identification of the effects observed in legacy TCP connections over a UMTS downlink...

Performance Evaluation of TCP Variants over UMTS Networks

With the evolution of 3G technologies like Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS), the usage of TCP has become more popular for a reliable end-to-end (e2e) data delivery. However, TCP was initially designed for wired networks and therefore it suffers performance degradation due to the radio signal getting affected by fading, shadowing and interference. There are many strategies propos...

Performance Evaluation of Tcp Congestion Control Algorithms over Umts

TCP congestion control was designed and optimized for wired networks. During recent years, however, the popularity of wireless network infrastructures enabling ubiquitous Internet access, such as Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS), has grown considerably. As a consequence, many improved TCP congestion control algorithms, able to effectively operate over hybrid wired/wireless netwo...

A Differentiated Pricing Framework for Improving the Performance of the Elastic Traffics in Data Networks

Rate allocation has become a demanding task in data networks as diversity in users and traffics proliferate. Most commonly used algorithm in end hosts is TCP. This is a loss based scheme therefore it exhibits oscillatory behavior which reduces network performance. Moreover, since the price for all sessions is based on the aggregate throughput, losses that are caused by TCP affect other sessions...

New Reno and SACK TCP implemented in UMTS networks; A performance analysis

Universal Mobile Telecommunication System shortly UMTS is seen as the future mobile network. The use of the existing Transmission control protocol (TCP) as transport protocol in an UMTS environment is an understandable choice. TCP is the most commonly used transport protocol on the internet, and if it will be used as transport protocol in an UMTS environment, the UMTS devices will be compatible...
